Cook traditional Greek festive dishes and celebrate like a local in this FIRST-class hands-on cooking experience. Mrs. Maria Krina, a chef with 20+ years of experience, teaches you how to prepare exceptional Christmas dishes using local native herbs and spices.

  • Go foraging if it rains enough to make wild green grow
  • Take pictures so you may recognize the ones you can safely forage on your own
  • Learn about the nutritional value and healing qualities
  • Use the in our cooking and learn how to use them in other dishes too
  • discover the intensity of the flavor of the unique wild herbs and spices of Syros as a result of the Cycladic microclimate and how they give extra taste to food
  • use in the dishes herbs that are not normally used in cooking
  • learn tips on how you can optimize the absorption of your food’s nutrients
  • taste and use exceptional quality extra virgin olive oil from an Indigenous Peloponnese variety that few people grow anymore called “mavrolisio” and grows in the Messinia region, famous for its olive oil quality

    A hands-on cooking experience using foraged wild herbs & spices

    to prepare a meal based on traditional FESTIVE recipes that are inspiring and exhilarating due to the ingredients’ simplicity and the palate’s complexity. Learn the “reason why” these dishes, which we will prepare together, are part of our Christmas tradition. Discover the Christmas tales and stories that shaped our upbringing and experience the magic of Christmas as a local. This is a cooking experience for YOU who come to Syros to be off the beaten path and get true local color and authentic flavor.

    Maria Krina, your chef for the day, will meet you at her house to go for a morning walk to FORAGE WILD GREENS AND HERBS, cook, and have lunch or dinner together.

    She has broad culinary knowledge, a long experience as a chef and educator, and a deep appreciation and respect for all kinds of Greek ingredients and plants.

    Maria says, “There is no such thing as a weed in nature.”

    She shares her passion, love, and scientific knowledge about herbs and spices, their use in herbal medicine, and their culinary uses.

    At the same time, you will experience how simple, quality ingredients cooked with love and care can nourish your body, mind, and soul.
